He approached me with the idea to do an art trade, some of his photography work for my work with swimwear. Long story short, the collaboration ended up with him travelling to Paris for work and taking an extra day on the trip to be able to photograph some beautiful pictures of some of my favorite places in Paris (my wife and I were engaged on the Eiffel Tower). He was looking for a design on a swim brief that honored his Mexican culture, specifically from the Yucatan region (where he is from).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003eI did a LOT of research and went through about five iterations of this design. I learned a LOT about the importance of the huipil and the guayabera. Each piece has embroidery that can tell a story about the person wearing it. With that inspiration in mind, I set out to honor my friend’s culture and, of course, keep my own spin on the design. When this version came to fruition, I knew it was the one. I love how it reads as embroidery just enough to almost trick the eye. I love the arrangement of the florals as they are my way of celebrating my friend and telling his story and I named this piece “Flor y Sol” which translates to “Flower and Sun.” When artists inspire each other, the best work is produced, and I am so proud of this project.
