A friend of mine that grew up in Mexico and now lives in Germany is a photographer and I admired his work for years. He approached me with the idea to do an art trade, some of his photography work for my work with swimwear. Long story short, the collaboration ended up with him travelling to Paris for work and taking an extra day on the trip to be able to photograph some beautiful pictures of some of my favorite places in Paris (my wife and I were engaged on the Eiffel Tower). He was looking for a design on a swim brief that honored his Mexican culture, specifically from the Yucatan region (where he is from).

I did a LOT of research and went through about five iterations of this design. I learned a LOT about the importance of the huipil and the guayabera. Each piece has embroidery that can tell a story about the person wearing it. With that inspiration in mind, I set out to honor my friend’s culture and, of course, keep my own spin on the design. When this version came to fruition, I knew it was the one. I love how it reads as embroidery just enough to almost trick the eye. I love the arrangement of the florals as they are my way of celebrating my friend and telling his story and I named this piece “Flor y Sol” which translates to “Flower and Sun.” When artists inspire each other, the best work is produced, and I am so proud of this project. I hope you wear this design in the sun and celebrate the fact that you are, in fact, wearing art as swimwear!

Care Instructions

The kinder that you treat your garments, the longer they will last.
We recommend rinsing your swim briefs in cool, clean water immediately after each wearing. This will help prolong their usable lifetime and ensure lotions, sprays, chemicals, and other contaminates are promptly removed.
Avoid sitting on rough surfaces as this can snag the fabric or ruin the finish. When necessary, place a towel or other item between your swimwear and the surface you are sitting on.
Do not allow your swim briefs to sit damp for extended periods of time when not being worn.
Use mild detergent and hand wash in cool water when necessary
Hang or lie flat to dry
DO NOT bleach, DO NOT dry clean, DO NOT tumble dry
If your swimwear has a specialty finish (such as metallics) avoid vigorous rubbing and contact with other surfaces
We do not recommend wearing specialty finishes in chlorinated water unless you are certain that the chemical balance is correct as improper chemical balance will ruin the finishes
